Parashah #25 Tzav – command

Tzav means “command.”

Uayyiqra (Leviticus) 6:8 – 8:36

Uayyiqra (Leviticus) Chapter 6

The Burnt Offering  (Leviticus 1:1–17)

8 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 9 “Command Aharon and his sons that this is the law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering is to remain on the hearth of the altar all night, until morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar.

10And the priest shall put on his linen robe and linen undergarments, and he shall remove from the altar the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed and place them beside it. 11 Then he must take off his garments, put on other clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place.

12 The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it must not be extinguished. Every morning the priest is to add wood to the fire, arrange the burnt offering on it, and burn the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. 13 The fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be extinguished.

The Grain Offering  (Leviticus 2:1–16)

14 Now this is the law of the grain offering: Aharon’s sons shall present it before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 in front of the altar. 15 The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil, together with all the frankincense from the grain offering, and burn the memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.

16 Aharon and his sons are to eat the remainder. It must be eaten without leaven in a set-apart place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Appointment. 17It must not be baked with leaven; I have assigned it as their portion of My food offerings. It is Most Set-Apart, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. 18 Any male among the sons of Aharon may eat it. This is a permanent portion from the food offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 for the generations to come. Anything that touches them will become set-apart.”

19 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 20 “This is the offering that Aharon and his sons must present to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 on the day he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. 21 It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded and present it as a grain offering broken in pieces, a pleasing aroma to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 ( YAHUAH). 22 The priest, who is one of Aharon’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. As a permanent portion for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, it must be burned completely. 23 Every grain offering for a priest shall be burned completely; it is not to be eaten.”

The Sin Offering  (Leviticus 4:1–35 ;  Leviticus 5:1–13)

24 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 25 “Tell Aharon and his sons that this is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄; it is Most Set-Apart. 26 The priest who offers it shall eat it; it must be eaten in a set-apart place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Appointment. 27Anything that touches its flesh will become set-apart, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it in a set-apart place.

28 The clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze pot, the pot must be scoured and rinsed with water. 29 Any male among the priests may eat it; it is Most Set-Apart. 30 But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the Tent of Appointment to make atonement in the Set-Apart Place; it must be burned.

Uayyiqra (Leviticus) Chapter 7

The Guilt Offering  (Leviticus 5:14–19 ;  Leviticus 6:1–7)

1“Now this is the law of the guilt offering, which is Most Set-Apart: 2The guilt offering must be slaughtered in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, and the priest shall splatter its blood on all sides of the altar. 3 And all the fat from it shall be offered: the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, 4 both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which is to be removed with the kidneys. 5 The priest shall burn them on the altar as a food offering to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄; it is a guilt offering. 6 Every male among the priests may eat of it. It must be eaten in a set-apart place; it is Most Set-Apart.

7 The guilt offering is like the sin offering; the same law applies to both. It belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it. 8 As for the priest who presents a burnt offering for anyone, the hide of that offering belongs to him. 9Likewise, every grain offering that is baked in an oven or cooked in a pan or on a griddle belongs to the priest who presents it, 10 and every grain offering, whether dry or mixed with oil, belongs equally to all the sons of Aharon.

The Peace Offering  (Leviticus 3:1–17)

11Now this is the law of the peace offering that one may present to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH): 12 If he offers it in thanksgiving, then along with the sacrifice of thanksgiving he shall offer unleavened cakes mixed with olive oil, unleavened wafers coated with oil, and well-kneaded cakes of fine flour mixed with oil.

13 Along with his peace offering of thanksgiving he is to present an offering with cakes of leavened bread. 14 From the cakes he must present one portion of each offering as a contribution to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄. It belongs to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offering. 15 The meat of the sacrifice of his peace offering of thanksgiving must be eaten on the day he offers it; none of it may be left until morning.

16 If, however, the sacrifice he offers is a vow or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day he presents his sacrifice, but the remainder may be eaten on the next day. 17 But any meat of the sacrifice remaining until the third day must be burned up. 18 If any of the meat from his peace offering is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted. It will not be credited to the one who presented it; it shall be an abomination, and the one who eats of it shall bear his iniquity.

19 Meat that touches anything unclean must not be eaten; it is to be burned up. As for any other meat, anyone who is ceremonially clean may eat it. 20 But if anyone who is unclean eats meat from the peace offering that belongs to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, that person must be cut off from his people. 21 If one touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean, detestable thing, and then eats any of the meat of the peace offering that belongs to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, that person must be cut off from his people.”

Fat and Blood Forbidden

22 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 23 “Speak to the Yasharalites and say, ‘You are not to eat any of the fat of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. 24 The fat of an animal found dead or mauled by wild beasts may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it.

25If anyone eats the fat of an animal from which a food offering may be presented to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, the one who eats it must be cut off from his people. 26 You must not eat the blood of any bird or animal in any of your dwellings. 27If anyone eats blood, that person must be cut off from his people.’ ”

The Priests’ Portion

28 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 29 “Speak to the Yasharalites and say, ‘Anyone who presents a peace offering to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 must bring it as his sacrifice to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). 30 With his own hands he is to bring the food offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄; he shall bring the fat, together with the breast, and wave the breast as a wave offering before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.

31 The priest is to burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aharon and his sons. 32 And you are to give the right thigh to the priest as a contribution from your peace offering. 33 The son of Aharon who presents the blood and fat of the peace offering shall have the right thigh as a portion.

34 I have taken from the sons of Yasharal the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aharon the priest and his sons as a permanent portion from the sons of Yasharal.’ ”

35 This is the portion of the food offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 for Aharon and his sons since the day they were presented to serve 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 as priests. 36 On the day they were anointed, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 commanded that this be given them by the sons of Yasharal. It is a permanent portion for the generations to come.

37 This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering, and the peace offering, 38 which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave Moshe on Mount Sinai on the day He commanded the Yasharalites to present their offerings to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 in the Wilderness of Sinai.

Uayyiqra (Leviticus) Chapter 8

Moshe Consecrates Aharon and His Sons  (Exodus 29:1–9)

1Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 2 “Take Aharon and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread, 3 and assemble the whole congregation at the entrance to the Tent of Appointment.”

4 So Moshe did as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the Tent of Appointment. 5 And Moshe said to them, “This is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has commanded to be done.”

6 Then Moshe presented Aharon and his sons and washed them with water. 7 He put the tunic on Aharon, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him. He tied the woven band of the ephod around him and fastened it to him. 8 Then he put the breastpiece on him and placed the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece. 9Moshe also put the turban on Aharon’s head and set the gold plate, the set-apart diadem, on the front of the turban, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him.

10 Next, Moshe took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it; and so he set them apart. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to set them apart.

12 He also poured some of the anointing oil on Aharon’s head and anointed him to consecrate him. 13 Then Moshe presented Aharon’s sons, put tunics on them, wrapped sashes around them, and tied headbands on them, just as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him.

The Priests’ Sin Offering

14 Moshe then brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on its head. 15Moshe slaughtered the bull, took some of the blood, and applied it with his finger to all four horns of the altar, purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and set it apart so that atonement could be made on it.

16 Moshe also took all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it all on the altar. 17 But the bull with its hide, flesh, and dung he burned outside the camp, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him.

The Priests’ Burnt Offering

18 Then Moshe presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on its head. 19 Moshe slaughtered the ram and splattered the blood on all sides of the altar. 20 He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat. 21 He washed the entrails and legs with water and burned the entire ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, just as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded Moshe.

The Ram of Ordination  (Exodus 29:10–30)

22 After that, Moshe presented the other ram, the ram of ordination, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on its head. 23 Moshe slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on Aharon’s right earlobe, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 24 Moshe also presented Aharon’s sons and put some of the blood on their right earlobes, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he splattered the blood on all sides of the altar.

25 And Moshe took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with their fat—as well as the right thigh. 26 And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, he took one cake of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, and he placed them on the fat portions and on the right thigh. 27 He put all these in the hands of Aharon and his sons and waved them before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 as a wave offering.

28 Then Moshe took these from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) 29 He also took the breast—Moshe’ portion of the ram of ordination—and waved it before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 as a wave offering, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded him.

30 Next, Moshe took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled them on Aharon and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. So he set-apart Aharon and his garments, as well as Aharon’s sons and their garments.

31And Moshe said to Aharon and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the Tent of Appointment and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aharon and his sons are to eat it.’ 32 Then you must burn up the remainder of the meat and bread.

33 You must not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Appointment for seven days, until the days of your ordination are complete; for it will take seven days to ordain you. 34What has been done today has been commanded by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 in order to make atonement on your behalf. 35 You must remain at the entrance to the Tent of Appointment day and night for seven days and keep 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄’s charge so that you will not die, for this is what I have been commanded.”

36So Aharon and his sons did everything 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had commanded through Moshe.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 7:21-8:3; 9:22-9:23

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) Chapter 7

21 This is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 of Hosts, the Alahym of Yasharal, says: Add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! 22 For when I brought your fathers out of the land of Mitsrayim, I did not merely command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but this is what I commanded them: Obey Me, and I will be your Alahym, and you will be My people. You must walk in all the ways I have commanded you, so that it may go well with you.

24 Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but they followed the stubborn inclinations of their own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward. 25 From the day your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets again and again. 26Yet they would not listen to Me or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and did more evil than their fathers.

27When you tell them all these things, they will not listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer. 28Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not listen to the voice of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 their Alahym and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips. 29 Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a lamentation on the barren heights, for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’

The Valley of Slaughter

30 For the people of Yahudah have done evil in My sight, declares 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have defiled it. 31They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, so they could burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My mind.

32 So behold, the days are coming, declares 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room. 33 The corpses of this people will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to scare them away.34I will remove from the cities of Yahudah and the streets of Yarushalayim the sounds of joy and gladness and the voices of the bride and bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) Chapter 8

Judah’s Sin and Punishment

1“At that time,” declares 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, “the bones of the kings of Yahudah, the bones of the officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Yarushalayim will be removed from their graves. 2They will be exposed to the sun and moon, and to all the host of heaven which they have loved, served, followed, consulted, and worshiped. Their bones will not be gathered up or buried, but will become like dung lying on the ground. 3 And wherever I have banished them, the remnant of this evil family will choose death over life,” declares 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 of Hosts.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) Chapter 9

22 Declare that this is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 says:

“The corpses of men will fall like dung

upon the open field,

like newly cut grain behind the reaper,

with no one to gather it.”

23 This is what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 says:

“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom,

nor the strong man in his strength,

nor the wealthy man in his riches.

Iḇ`rim (Hebrews) 9:11-28

Iḇ`rim (Hebrews) Chapter 9

Redemption through His Blood

11But when Messiah came as High Priest of the good things that have come, He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made by hands and is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but He entered the Most Set-Apart Place once for all by His own blood, thus securing eternal redemption.

13For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean set them apart so that their bodies are clean, 14how much more will the blood of Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to Alahym, purify our consciences from works of death, so that we may serve the living Alahym!

15 Therefore Messiah is the mediator of a renewed covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that He has died to redeem them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

16 In the case of a will, it is necessary to establish the death of the one who made it, 17 because a will does not take effect until the one who made it has died; it cannot be executed while he is still alive.

18That is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. 19 For when Moshe had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, along with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant, which Alahym has commanded you to keep.”

21 In the same way, he sprinkled with blood the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship. 22 According to the law, in fact, nearly everything must be purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23So it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Messiah did not enter a man-made copy of the true sanctuary, but He entered heaven itself, now to appear on our behalf in the presence of Alahym.

25 Nor did He enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, as the High Priest enters the Most Set-Apart Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, Messiah would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.27 Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so also Messiah was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring deliverance to those who eagerly await Him.

More Torah Portions

NOTE: The Torah that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave to Moshe is divided into 54 portions, which is a practical way of reading the entire Torah each year. The new reading cycle traditionally starts after the seventh month moedim: Yom Teruah to Yom Shemini Atzeret. The 54th reading, Ve-Zot Ha-Berakhah, falls during Sukkot.

”So Moshe wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Luiy, who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and to all the elders of Yasharal. Then Moshe commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of remission of debt, during Chag Sukkot [the Feast of Tabernacles], when all Yasharal comes before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym at the place He will choose, you are to read this law in the hearing of all Yasharal. Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym and to follow carefully all the words of this law.  Then their children who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Yarden to possess.” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 31: 9 – 12

It is not required that the Torah be read in this order. However, we find the Father 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 reveals new truths and builds our understanding of His Word each and every time we open and read His Word. We experience renewal and special blessings with each reading. We, therefore, believe it is important to make these readings available to the followers of the Way through this platform.
