Parashah #51 . Nitzavim – you are standing

Nitzavim means “you are standing“

Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 29:10-30:20

Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) Chapter 29

10 All of you are standing today before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym—you leaders of tribes,  elders, officials, and all the men of Yasharal, 11 your children and wives, and the foreigners in your camps who cut your wood and draw your water—12 so that you may enter into the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, which He is making with you today, and into His oath, 13 and so that He may establish you today as His people, and He may be your Alahym as He promised you and as He swore to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ.

14 I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you, 15 but also with those who are standing here with us today in the presence of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 our Alahym, as well as with those who are not here today.

16 For you yourselves know how we lived in the land of Mitsrayim and how we passed through the nations on the way here. 17 You saw the abominations and idols among them made of wood and stone, of silver and gold.

18 Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 our Alahym to go and worship the idols of those nations. Make sure there is no root among you that bears such poisonous and bitter fruit,  19 because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself, saying, ‘I will have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my own heart.’

This will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. 20 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will never be willing to forgive him. Instead, His anger and jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse written in this book will fall upon him. 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will blot out his name from under heaven 21 and single him out from all the tribes of Yasharal for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Torah.

22 Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has inflicted on it. 23 All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive, with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of Seḏom and Amorah, Aḏmah and Tseḇoyim, which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 overthrew in His fierce anger.

24 So all the nations will ask, ‘Why has 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 done such a thing to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?’

25 And the people will answer, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, the Alahym of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim. 26 They went and served other mighty ones, and they worshiped idols they had not known—idols that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had not given to them. 27 Therefore the anger of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 burned against this land, and He brought upon it every curse written in this book. 28 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 uprooted them from their land in His anger, rage, and great wrath, and He cast them into another land, where they are today.’

29 The secret things belong to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 our Alahym, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this Torah.

Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) Chapter 30

The Promise of Restoration  (Nehemiah 1:1–11)

1 “When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym has banished you, 2 and when you and your children return to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you today, 3 then He will restore you from captivity   and have compassion on you and gather you from all the nations to which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym has scattered you. 4 Even if you have been banished to the farthest horizon,  He will gather you and return you from there.

5 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to prosper and multiply more than your fathers. 6 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

7 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym will put all these curses upon your enemies who hate you and persecute you. 8 And you will again obey the voice of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 and follow all His commandments I am giving you today. 9 So 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym will make you abound in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will again delight in your prosperity, as He delighted in that of your fathers, 10 if you obey 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym by keeping His commandments and statutes that are written in this Book of the Torah, and if you turn to Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Choice of Life or Death

11 For this commandment I give you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’ 13 And it is not beyond the sea, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea   to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’ 14 But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,  so that you may obey it.

15 See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, as well as death and disaster. 16 For I am commanding you today to love 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym may bless you in the land that you are entering to possess.

17 But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, but are drawn away to bow down to other mighty ones and worship them, 18 I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land that you are crossing the Yarděn to possess.

19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live, 20 and that you may love 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 swore to give to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ.”

Yashayahu (Isaiah) 61:10-63:9

Yashayahu (Isaiah) Chapter 61

10 I will rejoice greatly in 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄,

my soul will exult in my Alahym;

  for He has clothed me with garments of deliverance

and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness,

  as a bridegroom wears a fancy headdress,

as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth brings forth its growth,

and as a garden enables seed to spring up,

  so the Master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will cause righteousness and praise

to spring up before all the nations.

Yashayahu (Isaiah) Chapter 62

Zion’s Salvation and New Name

1 For Tsiyon’s sake I will not keep silent,

and for Yarushalayim’s sake I will not keep still,

until her righteousness shines like a bright light,

her deliverance like a blazing torch.

2 Nations will see your righteousness,

and all kings your esteem.

You will be called by a new name

that the mouth of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will bestow.

3 You will be a crown of glory in the hand of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄,

a royal diadem in the palm of your Alahym.

4 No longer will you be called Forsaken,

nor your land named Desolate;

but you will be called Ḥephtsiḇah,

and your land “Married;”

for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will take delight in you,

and your land will be His bride.

5 For as a young man marries a young woman,

so your sons will marry you;

and as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,

so your Alahym will rejoice over you.

6 On your walls, O Yarushalayim, I have posted watchmen;

they will never be silent day or night.

You who call on 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄

shall take no rest for yourselves,

7 nor give Him any rest

until He establishes Yarushalayim

and makes her the praise of the earth.

8 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has sworn by His right hand

and by His mighty arm:

“Never again will I give your grain

to your enemies for food,

nor will foreigners drink the new wine

for which you have toiled.

9 For those who harvest grain

will eat it and praise 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄,

and those who gather grapes

will drink the wine in My set apart courts.”

10 Go out, go out through the gates;

prepare the way for the people!

  Build it up, build up the highway;

clear away the stones;

raise a banner for the nations!

11 Behold, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has proclaimed

to the ends of the earth,

  “Say to Daughter Tsiyon:

See, your Deliverer comes!

  Look, His reward is with Him,

and His recompense goes before Him.”

12 And they will be called the Set Apart People,

the Redeemed of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄;

  and you will be called Sought Out,

A City Not Forsaken.

Yashayahu (Isaiah) Chapter 63

Alahym’s Vengeance on the Nations

1 Who is this coming from Edom,

from Botsrah with crimson-stained garments?

Who is this robed in splendor,

marching in the greatness of His strength?

“It is I, proclaiming vindication,

mighty to save.”

2 Why are Your clothes red,

and Your garments like one who treads the winepress?

3 “I have trodden the winepress alone,

and no one from the nations was with Me.

I trampled them in My anger

and trod them down in My fury;

their blood spattered My garments,

and all My clothes were stained.

4 For the day of vengeance was in My heart,

and the year of My redemption had come.

5 I looked, but there was no one to help;

I was appalled that no one assisted.

So My arm brought Me salvation,

and My own wrath upheld Me.

6 I trampled the nations in My anger;

in My wrath I made them drunk

and poured out their blood on the ground.”

Alahym’s Mercies Recalled

7 I will make known 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄’s loving devotion

and His praiseworthy acts,

because of all that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has done for us—

the many good things for the house of Yasharal

according to His great compassion and loving devotion.

8 For He said, “They are surely My people,

sons who will not be disloyal.”

So He became their Deliverer.

9 In all their distress, He too was afflicted,

and the Messenger of His Presence  saved them.

In His love and compassion He redeemed them;

He lifted them up and carried them

all the days of old.

Yoḥanan (John) 15:1-11

Yoḥanan (John) Chapter 15

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤅𐤏 (YAHUSHUA) the True Vine  (Isaiah 27:1–13)

1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard. 2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.

5 I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to My Father’s esteem, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My taught ones.

No Greater Love

9 As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. 11 I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

More Torah Portions

NOTE: The Torah that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave to Moshe is divided into 54 portions, which is a practical way of reading the entire Torah each year. The new reading cycle traditionally starts after the seventh month moedim: Yom Teruah to Yom Shemini Atzeret. The 54th reading, Ve-Zot Ha-Berakhah, falls during Sukkot.

 ”So Moshe wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Luiy, who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and to all the elders of Yasharal. Then Moshe commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of remission of debt, during Chag Sukkot [the Feast of Tabernacles], when all Yasharal comes before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym at the place He will choose, you are to read this law in the hearing of all Yasharal. Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym and to follow carefully all the words of this law.  Then their children who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Yarden to possess.” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 31: 9 – 12

It is not required that the Torah be read in this order. However, we find the Father 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 reveals new truths and builds our understanding of His Word each and every time we open and read His Word. We experience renewal and special blessings with each reading. We, therefore, believe it is important to make these readings available to the followers of the Way through this platform.
