The first mention in Scripture of the Word of Almighty YAH coming to anyone was in Genesis 15. This is a very pivotal chapter in the history of humanity, as it introduces the engagement of Abram, who the Father later renames, Abraham, as the selected agent for establishing the eternal covenant that transcends all time.
Back in Genesis 12, Abraham was called out from among his people, to go to a place where YAHUAH Himself would choose for him.
‘And יהוה said to Aḇram, “Go yourself out of your land, from your relatives and from your father’s house, to a land which I show you.’
YAH had an exciting and mysterious journey planned for Abram–one that exceeded his wildest imagination! After some twists and turns on the journey–famine, family feud, and war–Abram has a spiritual encounter in which he acknowledges the Most High YAH by tithing of the wealth he had acquired on this journey. He demonstrated a heart of obedience and faith, showing that he was ready for the next level in his awesome relationship with YAH!
‘After these events the word of יהוה came to Aḇram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Aḇram. I am your shield, your reward is exceedingly great.”’
Abram received the promises of the covenant in a vision, which established him as a prophet of YAH.
‘And He said, “Hear now My words: If your prophet is of יהוה, I make Myself known to him in a vision, and I speak to him in a dream.’
The Word of YAHUAH also assured Abram that despite his old age, he would bear a biological son to carry on the covenant.
‘And see, the word of יהוה came to him, saying, “This one [Eli‛ezer] is not your heir, but he who comes from your own body is your heir.”’
These are the only two occasions recording that “the Word of YAHUAH” came to Abram, who YAH later remaned Abraham, meaning Father of Many Nations.
In Chapter 15, the following things happen:
- Abram was first and foremost assured of the Father’s covering over his life! This journey through the desert and through foreign lands was not going to be a smooth one. It was riddled with trials and tribulations beyond his wildest imagination! He needed this reassurance!
- He hears, in no uncertain terms, that he will bear a son who will carry on the covenant and his lineage to the next generation. So firmly did Abram hold on to this belief that he did not even waver when YAH told him to sacrifice his son; he demonstrated resolute belief that YAH himself is the resurrection and the life!
- Beyond the assurance of having a biological son, he is told that his seed would be as the stars in the sky–countless!
- Abram was declared righteous because he believed that YAH will do what seems to be impossible.
- Abram was promised some prime real estate as a reward–a homeland for the nation he was going to start building for the esteem of YAH Most High.
- YAH enters into a special covenant with Abram. He was told that his descendants would be subject to 400 years (4 generations) of slavery, but would come out to claim and inherit the land of promise.
- The covenant was sealed with sacrifices, which YAH accepted from Abram’s hand, signaling that he was pleased with Abram offerings of love.
