Parashah #19 T’rumah – offering

T’rumah means “offering.”

Shemoth (Exodus) 25:1-27:19

Offerings for the Dwelling Place  (Exodus 35:4–9)

Shemoth (Exodus) Chapter 25

1Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, 2“Tell the Yasharalites to bring Me an offering. You are to receive My offering from every man whose heart compels him. 3 This is the offering you are to accept from them:

gold, silver, and bronze;

4 blue, purple, and scarlet yarn;

fine linen and goat hair;

5 ram skins dyed red and fine leather;

acacia wood;

6 olive oil for the light;

spices for the anointing oil and for the

fragrant incense;

7 and onyx stones and gemstones to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.

8 And they are to make a Set-Apart Place for Me, so that I may dwell among them. 9 You must make the Dwelling Place and design all its furnishings according to the pattern I show you.

The Ark of the Covenant  (Exodus 37:1–5)

10 And they are to construct an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. 11 Overlay it with pure gold both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it.

12 Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, two rings on one side and two on the other. 13 And make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, in order to carry it. 15 The poles are to remain in the rings of the ark; they must not be removed. 16 And place inside the ark the Witness,  which I will give you.

The Lid of Atonement  (Exodus 37:6–9)

17 And you are to construct a lid of atonement of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.  18 Make two keruḇim of hammered gold at the ends of the lid of atonement, 19 one keruḇim on one end and one on the other, all made from one piece of gold. 20 And the keruḇim are to have wings that spread upward, overshadowing the lid of atonement. The keruḇim are to face each other, looking toward the lid of atonement.

21 Set the lid of atonement atop the ark and put the Witness that I will give you into the ark.

22 And I will meet with you there above the lid of Atonement, between the two keruḇim that are over the ark of the Witness; I will speak with you about all that I command you regarding the Yasharalites.

The Table of Showbread  (Exodus 37:10–16 ;  Leviticus 24:5–9)

23 You are also to make a table of acacia wood two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.  24 Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it. 25 And make a rim around it a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim.

26 Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners at its four legs. 27 The rings are to be close to the rim, to serve as holders for the poles used to carry the table. 28 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, so that the table may be carried with them.

29 You are also to make the plates and dishes, as well as the pitchers and bowls for pouring drink offerings. Make them out of pure gold.

30 And place the showbread on the table before Me at all times.

The Lampstand  (Exodus 37:17–24 ;  Numbers 8:1–4)

31 Then you are to make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. It shall be made of one piece, including its base and shaft, its cups, and its buds and petals.

32 Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. 33 There are to be three cups shaped like almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extend from the lampstand.

34 And on the lampstand there shall be four cups shaped like almond blossoms with buds and petals. 35 For the six branches that extend from the lampstand, a bud must be under the first pair of branches, a bud under the second pair, and a bud under the third pair. 36 The buds and branches are to be all of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.

37 Make seven lamps and set them up on the lampstand so that they illuminate the area in front of it. 38 The wick trimmers and their trays must be of pure gold. 39 The lampstand and all these utensils shall be made from a talent of pure gold.

40 See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

Shemoth (Exodus) Chapter 25

The Ten Curtains for the Dwelling Place  (Exodus 36:8–13)

1“You are to construct the Dwelling Place itself with ten curtains of finely spun linen, each with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and keruḇim skillfully worked into them. 2 Each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide—all curtains the same size.

3 Five of the curtains are to be joined together, and the other five joined as well. 4 Make loops of blue material on the edge of the end curtain in the first set, and do the same for the end curtain in the second set.

5 Make fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the second set, so that the loops line up opposite one another. 6 Make fifty gold clasps as well, and join the curtains together with the clasps, so that the Dwelling Place will be a unit.

The Eleven Curtains of Goat Hair  (Exodus 36:14–19)

7 You are to make curtains of goat hair for the tent over the Dwelling Place—eleven curtains in all. 8 Each of the eleven curtains is to be the same size—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.

9 Join five of the curtains into one set and the other six into another. Then fold the sixth curtain over double at the front of the tent.

10 Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in the first set, and fifty loops along the edge of the corresponding curtain in the second set. 11 Make fifty bronze clasps and put them through the loops to join the tent together as a unit.

12 As for the overlap that remains of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over shall hang down over the back of the Dwelling Place. 13 And the tent curtains will be a cubit  longer on either side, and the excess will hang over the sides of the Dwelling Place to cover it.

14 Also make a covering for the tent out of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of fine leather.

The Frames and Bases  (Exodus 36:20–34)

15 You are to construct upright frames of acacia wood for the Dwelling Place. 16 Each frame is to be ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.  17 Two tenons must be connected to each other for each frame. Make all the frames of the Dwelling Place in this way.

18 Construct twenty frames for the south side of the Dwelling Place, 19 with forty silver bases under the twenty frames—two bases for each frame, one under each tenon.

20 For the second side of the Dwelling Place, the north side, make twenty frames 21 and forty silver bases—two bases under each frame.

22 Make six frames for the rear of the Dwelling Place, the west side, 23 and two frames for the two back corners of the Dwelling Place, 24 coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. These will serve as the two corners. 25 So there are to be eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.

26 You are also to make five crossbars of acacia wood for the frames on one side of the Dwelling Place, 27 five for those on the other side, and five for those on the rear side of the Dwelling Place, to the west.

28 The central crossbar in the middle of the frames shall extend from one end to the other. 29 Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.

30 So you are to set up the Dwelling Place according to the pattern shown you on the mountain

The Veil  (Exodus 36:35–36)

31 Make a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen, with keruḇim skillfully worked into it. 32 Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood, overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases. 33 And hang the veil from the clasps and place the ark of the Witness behind the veil. So the veil will separate the Set Apart Place from the Most Set Apart Place.

34 Put the lid of Atonement on the ark of the Witness in the Most Set Apart Place. 35 And place the table outside the veil on the north side of the Dwelling Place, and put the lampstand opposite the table, on the south side.

The Curtain for the Entrance  (Exodus 36:37–38)

36 For the entrance to the tent, you are to make a curtain embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. 37 Make five posts of acacia wood for the curtain, overlay them with gold hooks, and cast five bronze bases for them.

Shemoth (Exodus) Chapter 27

The Bronze Altar  (Exodus 38:1–7)

1“You are to build an altar of acacia1 wood. The altar must be square, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high. 2 Make a horn on each of its four corners, so that the horns are of one piece, and overlay it with bronze.

3 Make all its utensils of bronze—its pots for removing ashes, its shovels, its sprinkling bowls, its meat forks, and its firepans. 4 Construct for it a grate of bronze mesh, and make a bronze ring at each of the four corners of the mesh. 5 Set the grate beneath the ledge of the altar, so that the mesh comes halfway up the altar.

6 Additionally, make poles of acacia wood for the altar and overlay them with bronze. 7 The poles are to be inserted into the rings so that the poles are on two sides of the altar when it is carried.

8 Construct the altar with boards so that it is hollow. It is to be made just as you were shown on the mountain.

The Courtyard  (Exodus 38:9–20)

9 You are also to make a courtyard for the Dwelling Place. On the south side of the courtyard make curtains of finely spun linen, a hundred cubits long   on one side, 10 with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and silver hooks and bands on the posts.

11 Likewise there are to be curtains on the north side, a hundred cubits long, with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and with silver hooks and bands on the posts. 12 The curtains on the west side of the courtyard shall be fifty cubits wide, with ten posts and ten bases.

13 The east side of the courtyard, toward the sunrise, is to be fifty cubits wide. 14 Make the curtains on one side fifteen cubits long, with three posts and three bases, 15 and the curtains on the other side fifteen cubits long, with three posts and three bases.

16 The gate of the courtyard shall be twenty cubits long, with a curtain embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. It shall have four posts and four bases.

17 All the posts around the courtyard shall have silver bands, silver hooks, and bronze bases. 18 The entire courtyard shall be a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide,  with curtains of finely spun linen five cubits high, and with bronze bases. 19 All the utensils of the Dwelling Place for every use, including all its tent pegs and the tent pegs of the courtyard, shall be made of bronze.

Melaḵim Aleph (1 Kings)  5:12-6:13

Then the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 came to Shelomoh, saying: “As for this House you are building, if you walk in My statutes, carry out My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father Dâuı̂yd.  And I will dwell among the Yasharalites and will not abandon My people Yasharal.”

Melaḵim Bĕt (2 Kings) 6:11-14

Melaḵim Aleph (1 Kings) Chapter 5

12 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave Shelomoh wisdom, as He had promised him. There was peace between Ḥiram and Shelomoh, and the two of them made a treaty.

Shelomoh’s Labor Force

13 Then Sovereign Shelomoh conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Yasharal. 14 He sent them to Lebanon in monthly shifts of 10,000 men, so that they would spend one month in Lebanon and two months at home. And Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor.

15 Shelomoh had 70,000 porters and 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, 16 not including his 3,300 foremen who supervised the workers.

17 And the sovereign commanded them to quarry large, costly stones to lay the foundation of the temple with dressed stones. 18 So Shelomoh’s and Ḥiram’s builders, along with the Gebalites, quarried the stone and prepared the timber and stone for the construction of the temple.

Temple Construction Begins  (2 Chronicles 3:1–2)

Melaḵim Aleph (1 Kings) Chapter 6

1In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Yasharalites had come out of the land of Mitsrayim, in the fourth year of Shelomoh’s reign over Yasharal, in the month of Zû, the second month, he began to build the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄.

2 The House that Sovereign Shelomoh built for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. 3 The portico at the front of the Hěḵal of the House was twenty cubits long, extending across the width of the temple and projecting out ten cubits in front of the temple.

4 He also had narrow windows framed high in the temple.

The Chambers

5 Against the walls of the temple and the inner sanctuary, Shelomoh built a chambered structure around the temple, in which he constructed the side rooms. 6 The bottom floor was five cubits wide,  the middle floor six cubits, and the third floor seven cubits.  He also placed offset ledges around the outside of the temple, so that nothing would be inserted into its walls.

7 The temple was constructed using finished stones cut at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any other iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.

8 The entrance to the bottom floor was on the south side of the temple. A stairway led up to the middle level, and from there to the third floor.

9 So Shelomoh built the temple and finished it, roofing it with beams and planks of cedar. 10 He built chambers all along the temple, each five cubits high and attached to the temple with beams of cedar.

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄’s Conditional Promise to Shelomoh

11 Then the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 came to Shelomoh, saying: 12 “As for this House you are building, if you walk in My statutes (chûqqâh), carry out My ordinances (mishpâṭ), and keep all My commandments (mitsuâh) by walking in them, I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father Dâuı̂yd. 13 And I will dwell among the Yasharalites and will not abandon My people Yasharal.”

Qorintiyim Bĕt (2 Corinthians) 9:1-15

Qorintiyim Bĕt (2 Corinthians) Chapter 9

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 Loves a Cheerful Giver  (1 Corinthians 16:1–4)

1Now about the service to the set-apart ones, there is no need for me to write to you. 2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting to the Makedonians, that since last year you in Achaia were prepared to give. And your zeal has stirred most of them to do likewise.

3 But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove empty, but that you will be prepared, just as I said. 4 Otherwise, if any Makedonian comes with me and find you unprepared, we—to say nothing of you—would be ashamed of having been so confident. 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you beforehand and make arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. This way, your gift will be prepared generously and not begrudgingly.

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not out of regret or compulsion. For Alahym loves a cheerful giver. 8 And Alahym is able to make all favor abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:

“He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor;

His righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of your  righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will produce thanksgiving to Alahym. 12 For this ministry of service is not only supplying the needs of the set-apart ones but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanksgiving to Alahym.

13 Because of the proof this ministry provides, the set-apart ones will esteem Alahym for your obedient confession of the Good News of Messiah, and for the generosity of your contribution to them and to all the others. 14 And their prayers for you will express their affection for you, because of the surpassing favor Alahym has given you. 15 Thanks be to Alahym for His indescribable gift!

More Torah Portions

NOTE: The Torah that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave to Moshe is divided into 54 portions, which is a practical way of reading the entire Torah each year. The new reading cycle traditionally starts after the seventh month moedim: Yom Teruah to Yom Shemini Atzeret. The 54th reading, Ve-Zot Ha-Berakhah, falls during Sukkot.

 ”So Moshe wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Luiy, who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and to all the elders of Yasharal. Then Moshe commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of remission of debt, during Chag Sukkot [the Feast of Tabernacles], when all Yasharal comes before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym at the place He will choose, you are to read this law in the hearing of all Yasharal. Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym and to follow carefully all the words of this law.  Then their children who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Yarden to possess.” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 31: 9 – 12

It is not required that the Torah be read in this order. However, we find the Father 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 reveals new truths and builds our understanding of His Word each and every time we open and read His Word. We experience renewal and special blessings with each reading. We, therefore, believe it is important to make these readings available to the followers of the Way through this platform.
