Parashah #52 Vayelech – And He Went

  • Deu 31:1-30
  • Is 55:6-56:8
  • Rom 10:1-17

Va-Yelech means “And He Went.” Moses was 120 years old when he gave us Va-Yelech.

Torah: Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 31: 1 – 30

Deḇarim Chapter 31

Yahushua to Succeed Moses  (Numbers 27:18–23)

1And Mosheh went and spoke these words to all Yasharal, 2 he said to them, “I am now a hundred and twenty years old; I am no longer able to come and go, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Yarden.’

3 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym Himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will dispossess them. Yahushua will cross ahead of you, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 has said. 4 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will do to them as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, when He destroyed them along with their land.

5  𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 will deliver them over to you, and you must do to them exactly as I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or terrified of them, for it is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym who goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

7 Then Moshe called for Yahushua and said to him in the presence of all Yasharal, “Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. 8 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 Himself goes before you; He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”

The Reading of the Law  (Nehemiah 8:1–8)

9 So Moshe wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Luiy, who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and to all the elders of Yasharal.

10 Then Moshe commanded them, “At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of remission of debt, during Chag Sukkot [Feast of Tabernacles], 11 when all Yasharal comes before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your ALahym at the place He will choose, you are to read this law in the hearing of all Yasharal.

12 Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym and to follow carefully all the words of this law. 13 Then their children who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Yarden to possess.”

YAHUAH’s Commissions Yahushua

14 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, “Behold, the time of your death is near. Call Yahushua and present yourselves at the Tent of Meeting, so that I may commission him.”

So Moshe and Yahushua went and presented themselves at the Tent of Meeting. 15 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the tent.

16 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said to Moshe, “You will soon rest with your fathers, and these people will rise up and prostitute themselves with the foreign idols of the land they are entering. They will forsake Me and break the covenant I have made with them.

17 On that day, My anger will burn against them, and I will abandon them and hide My face from them, so that they will be consumed, and many troubles and afflictions will befall them.

On that day they will say, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our Alahym is no longer with us?’

18 And on that day I will surely hide My face because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods.

19 Now therefore, write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites; have them recite it, so that it may be a witness for Me against them. 20 When I have brought them into the land that I swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and prosper. Then they will turn to other mighty ones and worship them, and they will reject Me and break My covenant. 21 And when many troubles and afflictions have come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants. For I know their inclination, even before I bring them into the land that I swore to give them.”

22 So that very day Moshe wrote down this song and taught it to the Yasharalites.

23 Then 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 commissioned Yahushua son of Nun and said, “Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Yasharalites into the land that I swore to give them, and I will be with you.”

The Law Placed in the Ark

24 When Moshe had finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end, 25 he gave this command to the Luiyim who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄:

26“Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 your Alahym, so that it may remain there as a witness against you. 27 For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are already rebelling against 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 while I am still alive, how much more will you rebel after my death!

28 Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officers so that I may speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to witness against them. 29 For I know that after my death you will become utterly corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. And in the days to come, disaster will befall you because you will do evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 to provoke Him to anger by the work of your hands.”

Moshe Begins His Song

30 Then Moshe recited aloud to the whole assembly of Yasharal the words of this song from beginning to end:

Haftarah: Yeshayah (Isaiah) 51: 6 – 8

Yeshayah 51

6 Seek 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, that He may have compassion, and to our Alahym, for He will freely pardon. 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways…”

Messianic Scriptures: Ḥazon (Revelation) 22: 6 – 21

Ḥazon (Revelation) 22

6 Then the malak said to me, “These words are faithful and true. Adonay, the Alahym of the set-apart prophets, has sent His malak to show His servants what must soon take place.”

7 “Behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of prophecy in this book.”

8 And I, Yahuchanan, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the malak who had shown me these things. 9 But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship Alahym!”

10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of prophecy in this book, because the time is near. 11 Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the vile continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the set-apart continue to be set-apart.”

12 “Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done. 13 I am the Aleph and the Tau, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by its gates. 15 But outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 “I, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤅𐤏, have sent My malak to give you this witness for the assemblies. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.

Nothing May Be Added or Removed

18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, Alahym will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, Alahym will take away his share in the tree of life and the set-apart city, which are described in this book.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Aman. Come, Master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤅𐤏!

21 The favor of the Master 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤅𐤏 be with all the set-apart ones.  Aman.

More Torah Portions

NOTE: The Torah that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 gave to Moshe is divided into 54 portions, which is a practical way of reading the entire Torah each year. The new reading cycle traditionally starts after the seventh month moedim: Yom Teruah to Yom Shemini Atzeret. The 54th reading, Ve-Zot Ha-Berakhah, falls during Sukkot.

”So Moshe wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Luiy, who carried the ark of the covenant of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄, and to all the elders of Yasharal. It is not required that the Torah be read in this order. However, we find the Father 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 reveals new truths and builds our understanding of His Word each and every time we open and read His Word. We experience renewal and special blessings with each reading. We, therefore, believe it is important to make these readings available to the followers of the Way through this platform.
