Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Messiah, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
Paul (Hebrew name – Shaul) is using the Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread to teach the Body of Messiah about keeping itself “unleavened.” We can be spiritually leavened at an individual level, but we can also be spiritually leavened at the group level. This word that Shaul spoke is not intended for unbelievers; it is intended for believers. When we come together, especially at this time of Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread, we should be careful not to be observing the feast while turning a blind eye to the sin in our camp. He cautions us against keeping company with people who call themselves our spiritual brothers and sisters, but who are guilty of being malicious, wicked, sexually immoral, greedy, or an idolater, verbal abuser, drunkard, or swindler. He goes on to say we should not even eat with such people.
Shaul calls upon the Body of Messiah to: “Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Messiah, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore LET US KEEP THE FEAST, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.”
Here, Shaul is talking to the entire group as one body, not to a specific person. At Passover, we are very focused on our individual cleansing, but if the Body of Messiah is not unleavened, then it also affects us personally. If we are fellowshipping with others who take the Word of YAH lightly, then we will see that this sinful nature will spread among us and corrupt the body. This is why so many so-called religions are today fully leavened bread, filled with false doctrines and immoral behavior, even committing acts of sexual immorality against children with apparent impunity. But when at the great White Throne Judgment YAH examines their case, the consequences will be decreed against those who refuse to receive correction.
For those called by the Name of the Most High 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), there is an expectation that we shall walk in the light, for He is in the light, and the blood of Messiah 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤅𐤏 (YAHUSHUA) cleanses us from all sins.
